Bradford is about 49 kilometres north of Toronto and forms part of the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury, Ontario. For the most part, Bradford real estate is characterized by newer homes in picturesque communities, about half an hour drive from Toronto’s downtown area.
This area overlooks the agricultural community of Holland Marsh, located on the banks of Holland River, a tributary of Lake Simcoe. Downtown Bradford is the area’s commercial core with prominent national retailers represented here.
The key economic sectors are food production, light manufacturing, food processing, plastics manufacturing and tourism-related opportunities. The Artesian Industrial Park is found in the northeast sector and is served by a railway line. On the west end, Reagan Industrial Park is home to a number of large manufacturers. Auto parts makers Dortec and Faurecia Automotive Seating Canada Ltd. Are among Bradford’s top employers.
Bradford has grown quickly in recent years because of its proximity to Highway 400, easing the access to metropolitan Toronto.
About 75 percent of Bradford homes are detached dwellings. Townhouse developments, semi-detached houses, multifamily apartments and expansive homes. Most of the housing stock is fairly new.
Homes in Summerlyn Village on Holland Street West are among the new housing stock. This housing development is near existing schools and retail developments. The community includes green space, water features, a community park and expansion areas that will accommodate a community centre, a town centre and a future school. The Westin neighbourhood lies east of downtown Bradford. It is the site of the area’s most beautiful homes. This area is made more attractive with a creek winding through the parkway.
There are no post-secondary campuses located in Bradford, but there are 10 public elementary schools and two secondary schools operated by the Simcoe County School Board.
Aside from good schools, Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park is another draw for families with young children. The combination resort and camping grounds has a swimming pool, a mini golf course, playgrounds and a lake for fishing. Golf enthusiasts can take advantage of Bradford’s adjacency to the Club at Bond Head, a beautiful golf facility operated by famed Canadian golf pro Ian Leggatt.
