Canada’s real estate sector continues to grow with waterfront condos in Toronto among the most sought after units in the inventory of available homes. Buildable land in Canada’s biggest metropolitan area is limited and waterfront properties are even more so.
Toronto’s waterfront covers 36 kilometres of lakeshore just off Lake Ontario with Etobicoke Creek as the western tip to Rouge River as the eastern most section. Waterfront Toronto, the city’s designated development authority for this area has divided this area into sections, namely Central Waterfront, East Bayfront, West Don Lands, Lower Don Lands and Port Lands. The entire area is undergoing a massive revitalization program intended to turn Toronto's lakeshore area into one of the world's best waterfront communities.
The central waterfront area is the most built-out in terms of commercial and residential developments. Multipurpose recreational facilities in this area include Rogers Centre, the Air Canada Centre, Harbourfront Centre and the famed CN Tower. It is also a transportation hub with the Union Subway Station and Toronto Ferry Island Terminal in this section.
East Bayfront is the site of many new waterfront developments. This section is just outside the business district and is in the heart of the city’s arts and culture scene. Newly opened public spaces include Sherbourne Common, Water’s Edge Promenade and Sugar Beach.
Toronto waterfront condos vary in size, style and amenities included in the housing complex. Condominium apartments range from modest one-bedroom units to custom loft apartments that showcase the latest in green building technologies.
Condominiums in the Ritz Carlton Hotel and Residences are spacious, well appointed and come with a doorman and valet service. Festival Tower is a luxury high- rise that offers room service, valet parking and housekeeping as optional services for its residents. Apartments in the Pinnacle Complex on Yonge Street and Lakeshore Boulevard have panoramic views of Lake Ontario, golf and running track facilities on the grounds and an indoor game room. Condominium units at the Montage LE have unobstructed views of the water that can be relished through wraparound windows in well-designed units. Montage is part of the City Place complex, sprawling planned community near Fort York and Spadina.
Clearly, waterfront properties in Toronto offer an enviable lifestyle with dining, shopping, outdoor recreation and vibrant nightlife all within walking distance of the residential high-rises.
